Zipps Service Course SL-88 Handlebar is where pros go when they want a traditional shape married to a long and low position.
The long-and-low bar setup is often used by those who like to hunker down in the drops for the most efficient wind-cheating position drops allow. That written, the SL-88 is more of a shallow drop with a long reach. The reach, as per Zipps naming conventions is 88mm. The drop is 130mm. What makes the two work together for position and comfort is the fourteen-degree ramp angle. This refers to the transition from the tops to the curve of the drops. While the bar dips down a bit to where youll set up your brakes, a good thing for those who like to stretch out, it will allow more room for wrists and forearms to feel free to move around while in the drops.
Interestingly, Zipp has moved to a three-degree outward sweep of the bars from mid-drop to the ends. This canting puts your wrists at a comfy angle for riding hard when low. It might confuse folks trying to size: not to worry, Zipp measures bar width from the middle of the brake perch. The 42cm width is measured center-to center, and the ends splay out a bit wider. This 42cm size, btw, is 275g.
The top front face of the bars is gently flattened for easy cable routing and great comfort when holding the tops.
As with all of Zipps bars. The clamp diameter is 31.8mm. The center section is wide enough that theres room to clamp on aero extensions and Zipp is comfortable with you doing so.
The Zipp Service Course SL-88 handlebar is the one for both for traditionalists and those who like to stretch out on the hoods and drops.
